After having a bath today I had water all over the floor of bathroom.  Something is leaking but thats another problem.  I went downstairs and there was water all over the work surface in kitchen below bathroom.  The RCD switch had tripped due to the water I guess.  The thing I am worried about is that only the sockets were not working.  the lights and everything else were working ok.  Shouldnt everything have been off when the RCD switch trips?

I am a mere female who had an electrical problem........you lost me with yoru reply I am afraid.  So was it ok that only the sockets were off then.  I havent got a faulty switch?

For th 16th edition regulations, RCD protection was generally required for sockets only.

For the 17th edition, RCD protction is required for pretty much all circuits.....there are exceptions.

It is unlikely your house was wired to the 17th edition, most sparks are still getting upto speed with these regs.

There is nothing to worry about, your sockets tripping and the lights remaining on is expected in most properties.
