I'm not really into pool but I thought you normally used something like this. suspended above the table to eliminate shadows.

http://www.cuepower.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20_64&zenid=t6sufpmmqc...If they want regular 50mm halogen downlights.. Google says a full size table is 1.2 meters wide, 2.1 long and 0.84 high. So if ceiling is 3.6 meters...
Height of ceiling above table = 3.6 - 0.85 = 2.75 meters.
Min beam angle required to cover width of table = 2 * (ArcTan(0.84/2/2.75)) = 17 degrees.
So the maths suggests something like a line of three downlights down the middle of the table with a 24 degree beam angle.
I'm no electrician but any fire regs issues for the ceiling?
