Confusing myself

No matter how much I rack my brains I cant understand how this works.

Industrial lighting circuit, single NO push button ... press once lights come on, press again lights go off.  I know this is really simple but right now this is driving me up the wall!  Can anyone put me out of my misery?

Google IMPULSE relay.

This would be used to switch a contactor.

I can't say I have ever seen it done like this though?

Brilliant thats exactly what I need.  Thankyou.

The idea is to have two types of lighting in one area, some small 28w D lamps that are 'usually on' to appropriate light levels for walkway ... and upon the push of a button these turn off and flouro's turn on to up the lighting level making it suitable for working and vice versa.  Will cut down electric bill no end!

Thanks again.
