Fitting Sky+ Box
Mar 3rd, 2009, 1:14pm

Hi,
I have, installed, at the moment, a standard Thompson Skydigibox for receiving my Sky package. A friend of mine has upgraded and offered me his old Sky+ box. I would like to know if it is just a straight swap to fit this box, i.e: the fittings and ariels are the same, or is it more complicated than that. Also, would this be legal to do.
                       Regards  and thanks,
                              Mikee. Smiley

The + part of Sky+ needs a dual LNB with two cables from the dish down to the box. You also need a subscription for Sky+ to get the + part working.

You can do it yourself.

You can change your LNB on your dish to a dual or quad LNB (2 or 4 outlets), and run an additional cable from the dish to your box.  You may like to run two cables, replacing your old cable at the same time.

Once you connect the sky+ box, it will not not work at first.  It needs to be enabled by sky, and you need to give them the details of the box (model, serial no etc) which is available through the menus, and sky will guide you to these when they want them).

You need to pay £10 per month if you are not a sky subscriber, but sky+ is FREE if you subscribe to a package.

It is not illegal, and sky do not worry about it!  I fit dishes as part of my job to new build houses and renovations and never had an issue.

Sky have been known to upgrade people free if they threaten to cancel their sub. See if they have a special offers for new subscribers and then complain that as a loyal subscriber you feel you should also get a similar upgrade. I believe they also offer free upgrades to people who recommend a friend. Sometimes it's just the upgrade that's free but sometimes even the monthly fee is waived. There are/were aso vouchers out there for upgrades...

Google for free sky+ upgrade

Examples..
