AVG FREE 7.5 Warning message
Apr 19th, 2009, 2:04pm

Any one else out there using AVG 7.5?

I've been getting warning messages when I download updates which say that this version is no longer supported and that I should upgrade to AVG 8.

During the past 4 weeks or so, I have had two supposed deadlines pass whereby update support for virus definitions was supposed to have been withdrawn, yet I can still get these updates with no problem.

If I follow the upgrade to Version 8 link, it takes me to a .UK website where I am bei9ng asked to pay for an upgrade to version 8.

Is this a scam? Or have AVG really done away with their free anti virus stuff?

avg have a habbit of splashing thier pay-for version in your face and only linking to the free version with a link hidden somewhere in the small print if at all.

I guess it's annoying but understandable.

AVG 8 has been giving me problems
tuned on computer a couple of days ago, got an error message that signature couldn't be verified, tried the repair option but couldn't find email with serial number
tried re install but couldn't complete due to 5 problems
tried to remove but couldn't due to 1 problem
installed avast but i'm still getting error messages every time i boot up & every time i use outlook, every email i open give an error message

i think what i'll do is copy all the error messages & post them

Download a copy of this -

http://www.ccleaner.com/

It's the most useful piece of software I have, and it's free!!

Get it to clean out your cache etc, then use the registry checker/repairer thing to try to fix it.

If this doesn't work, use the CCleaner uninstaller rather than the OEM software uninstaller, then clean your registry again, then try to re-install AVG8.

Hi,
a guy in Austria recommended this software to me last year, I used it on my work computer and had a terminal blue screen the next day. work had to send it back to Dell!!

The incident may be completely un-related, but ever since, I've been very wary of ccleaner!

Many of these 'cleaner' type of programs can cause more issues than good.  You always need to make sure you back up before using them as the blue screen of death is well known with these types of software.  They play heavily into the registry which can cause real issues when it comes to booting up.

Yeah I think there are only 60 or so known viruses targeting Macs.
