Get it to clean out your cache etc, then use the registry checker/repairer thing to try to fix it.
If this doesn't work, use the CCleaner uninstaller rather than the OEM software uninstaller, then clean your registry again, then try to re-install AVG8.

a guy in Austria recommended this software to me last year, I used it on my work computer and had a terminal blue screen the next day. work had to send it back to Dell!!
The incident may be completely un-related, but ever since, I've been very wary of ccleaner!
