SWA to a shed?

HuhHey guys I'm new to the forum. I'm Putting a new installation in to the shed. I've got a 2way Metal RCD with a 6amp Lighting And a Small Ring Final Coning Of. I've got 6mm SWA going to be run into there its only 5-6 M away from the house.

My question is where would the SWA be run into the house? would it be off a fused spur from the CCU?

any help would be appreciated thanks

You could run it straight into your main consumer unit protected by an existing RCD or by installing an RCBO, a 20a rated MCB/RCBO respectively will be fine if your using equipment that isnt heavy in using current.

You could run it into an adaptable box external to your property, this adaptable box would have a supply from the main consumer unit using Twin & Earth cable.

You need to make sure the protective bonding conductors have been installed to the water and gas services, if they apply, before work commences.

Whats your earthing arrangement, TNS, TN-C-S, TT?

What is your shed made of? Does it have any metallic services in it i.e, water pipe?

You need to make sure your installation can handle the additional load as well.

Why would you need RCD protection at your CU?

Ha ha, you wouldnt if it were a TN system, however, if it was a TT system then the RCD protection would need to come from the main CU in the house, before the SWA feeding the metal CU in the shed. Whether or not thats with an existing 30mA rcd or if an RCBO needs to be fitted? Who knows?

Right ok, if it's a tn system and swa is used to supply the shed then the 30mA rcd can be put in the cu in the garage or it can be added at the main cu or come from the protected side of the splitload board, he has sockets in the shed so 30mA is required. If it's a TT system with a 100mA isolator, he still needs 30mA protection for the sockets in the shed, but I see what your pointing out and I feel like a numpty for missing it, he can have the 30mA rcd in the shed as the 100mA isolator is providing fault protection for the SWA and metal enclosure.

Thanx for doing it in a polite way, I don't know what's wrong with me sometimes, maybe my brain is coming to it's end  Wink
