help needed with max demands
Jul 27th, 2009, 7:10pm

hi lads can you guide me with the best and most simple way to work out the demand in a old mill, basically ive been asked to see if the landlord of the mill can reduce the agreed supply of is mill, as the rate of the electricity he is being charged is high and if he can show the max demand he now needs is lower than when the mill was built the unit costs will come down i would say most of the mill is not occupied at the moment there is aprox 7 units let all with a 60amp three phase supplys and out of them units only 3 will be using near that demand the other 4 are only using lighting and and power no machinery there is also 13 other units which only 5 is rentable which i need to take into consideration which as far as im aware 4 have 3 phase 60 amp supplies and one as a single phase supply 60 amp so in simple terms we have

12 x 60 amp 3 phase supplies
1 x 60 amp single phase
3 of them using machines etc

if you need anything else please ask thanks for taking the time to read and for any help you can offer

If he is being charged an agreed capacity, the supply sounds to be a sizeable one as opposed to a standard service.  This would then indicate that a programmable meter has been fitted.

These meters log the maximum demand.

You can find the maximum demand on the meter by scrolling through the functions by pressing the button on the front.

Either that, or hire a logger and fit that for a week - typically costs around £100.

The supplier may well fit one for free.

With the limited info you have given there is no way to determine any kind of maximum demand, other than adding the loads together!  There is really just not enough info.

We curently use a compnay called inlec.  I am sure their website is www.inlec.com, but this is not working.  The simplest logger is called an SP Max.

They ship it out to you, you fit it (plug it in, place three clamps around the tails, reset the logger using a laptop, or a PC before you go to site).

Then use the supplied software to review the results.

I did a survey last week using a logger, I may see if I can attach the produced report later.

I've used Inlec aswell, kit was good and the software on the bigger loggers was simple to use and pretty powerful with loads of reports and graphs.
