extension to the shed not working?
Aug 5th, 2009, 8:26pm

I have run a armoured 4 core,1.5mm, cable to the shed, about 25 metres away, to run a light off.In the house it is plugged into a rcd breaker. The 4 core cable was a earth wire and 3 blacks marked 1,3 and a plain black one.I put 1 to negative,3 to live and earth to earth.I have cut out the plain black wire.I have wired the plug,in the house, and the socket in the shed the same but there is no power in the shed?.Any ideas?.Thanks

This may sound really silly but have you:
- checked the fuse in the plug?
- checked the fuse in the RCD breaker (if it has one)?
- plugged something else, like a lamp, into socket you want to use to power the shed, to make sure it works?

PS put some brown sleeving or tape on the lives and blue sleeving or tape on the neutrals.

Has it tripped out the RCD in the consumer unit?

It also sounds like you didn't use SWA glands  Sad

This means that the steel wire isn't earthed!   Sad Sad

Is the socket in the shed metal clad?  Huh

You don't own any kind of tester   Sad Angry

If you want to feed the shed like this
I would suggest you terminate the armoured ....... Angry

In fact get a sparky round and for 100quid get it done properly!
