Hi, wondered if anyone could help shed some light on wiring up a rayburn or even show a simplified diagram .  Basicly the rayburn itself has a built in 2 channel programmer to control cooker and hot water,  but part L of the building regs says you need a programmable room stat to do heating ( i think). there is a mid position valve, a tank stat and the pump

Sounds like a standard central heating system using the rayburn as 'a boiler'.

You simply need to place your room stat in series with the live between the CH ON terminal of the built in programmer and the mid position valve.  The stat may also require a neutral depending on which you buy.

You can take a 3 core and earth cable from either the programmer or the wiring centre/joint box adjacent the mid position valve.

Take some pics of the wiring centre by the mid position valve, post them here and we could show you how to wire it.

The pump connect to the rayburns PL and PN (pump live and pump neurtal) by the looks of it, this is because the rayburn has a pumo overrun to keep heat moving away from the rayburn when cooking etc.

The diagram included in the link shows the central heating room stat as a programmable type, and for this reson they have connected this stat to the permenent live on the diagram rather than the CH ON outout on the rayburn.  If you use a standard room stat you would swap this over.

I thought you said there was a programmer built in?  The diagram certainly suggests so.  Often this is an optional extra, and in my experience is just a rayburn rebranded honeywell.  Best to order this with the rayburn.

This is not a true rayburn - It is basically a boiler inside a rayburn case.

There is a pump over run on the boiler, and this must be used.  You also need to include a bypass on the rads loop - either a towel radiator, or bathroom radiator, or use an automatic bypass loop if the pipe run in long enough.  All the info on plumbing is given though - and I am sure you are using an installer?
