Re-enamelling old bath

Has anyone any experience of firms who offer this re-coating service?

I have a customer who wants to remodel their bathroom but keep their VERY old cast-iron bath that is like no other I've seen before outside of a museum!

A friend did her old roll-top a few years ago and whilst it looked reasonable for a while, it's now looking very sad after about five years. This customer wants a job done that will both look good and last.

I suspect there is a big difference between companies that come to you and use a cold process to resurface the bath and those where you have to take the bath to them and they shot blast off the old enamel and redo it using a furnace...

Possibly expensive but really exotic old baths can be worth a fortune.

PS: There is a note on one of their pages that says re-enamelling sometimes isn't totally flawless.

My understanding of enamelling is that it is done in ovens and the cold methods are not as effective. I guess you may have to accept that you will have to have it redone every few years if you go for the cold method.

It weighs about ten tons and will have to be done by the cold process, hence the question if anyone knew of a company that was good at it, otherwise I'd advise the customer to just paint it themselves, because there is no way I'd do it and give it any kind of guarantee.

It was a 2 part filler to fill the hole and then a little can of spray paint to spray over the filler. Alternatively you could use 2 part car body filler and get a can of white enamel spray paint, it would probably cost the same as the little kit I saw.

Yes.We are a London based resurfacing company!

I personally resurfaced hundreds of old baths!in a past 10 years
so I can say I know something about resurfacing!

The method posted below is when you have to rip out the bath and take it to a workshop,(which alone can turn in to a nightmare as a cast iron bath can weight over 350lbs),
where they rebuild the vitreous enamel coat from scratch!
No doubt this is the best way to restore!but
Is cost nearly as a brand new around £2500!
