Question on hooking up my new oil boiler

Hi Everyone,
I'm about to hook up my new oil boiler. It has 4 outlets, one on each side at the top and one on each side at the bottom.

I realize return should go to the bottom and flow to the top, but I am wondering if there is any benefit to connecting flow and return to opposite sides of the boiler so that the water is drawn across it as well as upwards through it.

I’d be interested to hear any views or theory on the subject.

On our Grant oil boiler I believe there was one flow pipe fitted with an elbow that could be rotated so it exits the boiler on the left or the right. eg it makes no difference which side as it's the same pipe where it matters. I've no idea about other makes, have a look in the back of the boiler.

You will be getting a professional to commission it for you won't you.

I realise I'm opening myself to a barrage here, but no, I was going to commission it myself! The instruction manual is pretty thorough. The factory say they have pre-set the oil pump pressure (I'd check it but I don't have a guage) & all I have to to is to adjust the air flow until the CO2 levels are as per their spec. The air flow is just one screw, twiddle it until I have 11.5% CO2.

Please feel free to fill me in if I'm being naieve (spelling?)

I'm not in the UK, I'm in Ireland. Not sure if I need to notify anyone here, I'll do some googling though as I hadn't thought of that, thanks!!

The manual simply says to block 2 of the boiler outlets, it doesn't specify which two!

Apologies for resurrecting a very old thread, but I thought you might find it interesting to know how I got on.

The boiler install went very well. I managed to borrow a fuel pressure guage and exhaust gas analyser from a friend, then using the manufacturer's instructions, I set everything up.

The boiler ran all last winter and I estimate that it halved my oil consumption while also improving the warmth in the house.

The old boiler was about 30 to 40m from the hot water cylinder, I sited the new one only 6m away. The new boiler has about 20% higher output rating, but is still proving far more efficient.
