Leak from shower Area
Jun 18th, 2010, 5:34pm

Hi Guys,

I have a leak from the general area of my shower that is evidenced by the fact that I am starting to get paint peeling/bubbling on the wall/coving below.

I have a Mira 88 shower, which probably is in need of the seal kit etc, but I suspect it is more to do with the waste water, rather than the shower unit itself.

I suspect the fix is going to be a case of removing the shower tray and taking the floor up to fix whatever the issue is, and then putting it all back.  If it is the shower, then that will need replacing and making good.  I have some spare tiles etc.

What I need therefore is a plumber, who can take all this to bits, fix it and put it all back together again, without me needing a plumber, a tiler, a carpenter etc etc.

Either way, it is beyond what I am happy to tackle myself

Is this within the normal scope of a plumber, or do they only want to do pure plumbing bits, and thus it becomes a much bigger job getting different trades in.

Also, any ideas what I shoudl be paying for something like this, assuming it takes either a half day or a day.

I am in North Wiltshire if you can recommend someone

Much appreciated
Mark.

I would check the seal around the tiles/tray first.

Whats the nearest town, as I know a few wilts guys.

Cost depends on how evident the problem is, £30 quid to the sky's the limit.

Hi, I have checked the tile/tray seal and appears ok, I have also used some white sealant to be doubly sure, but still same issue.

I am near Chippenham, if that helps.  I am very hesitant to just pick at random from yellow pages, as don't want ripping off - one that comes with a recommendation is far better.

Is the whole job, at its worst, capable of being done by a plumber (ie. potentially taking shower cubicle to bits, tiles etc and re-instating).

Many thanks for your response
Mark.

You should be able to get one that can do it all.

Look in the book for Darren Teague in Trowbridge.

Hi, do you know if he works under his own name, or a company name as I can't currently find him in the phone books.

Also, when I do find him, will he know your forum name as the source of the recommendation?

Many thanks
Mark
