Fused spur difficulties
Aug 18th, 2010, 10:00am

I have a fused spur in my cupboard powering a socket(which is impossible too get too) which powers my washing machine, I actually have an extension cord in there so that i can power a tumble dryer also.

The problem is that the fuse has went on the extension lead an now I want too change the fused spur too a socket so that it is easier to access.

The back of the socket has 2 live and 2 neutral cables beside each other (red + blue which i know is the wrong combination of colours) with the 2 earth cables beside them....straight forward too switch them into a single socket plate?? yes i'd think so but the problem i have is that at the bottom of the fused spur there is a single blue core going into a terminal marked N.

Can i just disconnect it and put it into a piece of connector block and continue as planned on the changeover???

Any help is appreciated, hopefully its straightforward and im worrying for nothing!!  Undecided

thanks

It does sound a little odd.

Can you take a couple photos and post them here?

See the bottom of post for info on how to do that.

Do you mean that you have three wires going into the neutral connection?  If so, do you have a consumer unit with some circuits on an RCD and some not?  And maybe different lighting circuits..some on the RCD and some not?

If the answer is Yes then I bet the extra neutral is to feed one of the lighting circuits ...but am also likely to be way off the mark so suggest you follow what Lec and the others say.

Panic over, in looking at it the first time I was in too much of a hurry and ended up making up in my mind that there was only one cable when infact there WAS the required 2. appreciate the attempted answers but as we all know the situation i'd dreamt up was rediculous haha.

Anyways its sorted, spur is off, socket is on and payed in beer! Not bad for half an hours work.

Thanks again Smiley

I guess all you have to do now is figure out how to get to the washing machine socket (that's been disconnected) so you can plug it into the new one?

plug a socket into a socket?!

The socket i couldnt get too was the 'load' on the fused spur so now it's disconnected and lying dormant and i have used the supply for the spur to supply a run of the mill single socket which now has the washing machine plugged into it. Sorted!

Cool
