Do not over-tighten they said.

So I didn't..hand tight. Leaked.

Tightened a bit more. Leaked

Bit more. Leaked

Bit more. Leaked

Tried loads of PTFE tape on the threads. Leaked.

Seems to me that it is a design flaw.  Googling suggests others have had the same problem.
