Wanted. 2nd hand boiler. Advice needed please
Nov 2nd, 2010, 7:12pm

Hello,  We didn't drain our boiler jacket down last winter in France and it cracked with the severely low temperatures.
We have been refused insurance assistance 'cause we didn't drain completely.
We would like to purchase a second hand replacement but need to know what would be suitable.

The existing system is mains fed, with a pressure balloon. There are no header tanks in France, neither for domestic water or boiler feed.

there are eight rooms of approx 28 cubic metres each.

The system will be used for background heating as we have 3 woodburners for the cold nights.

We do not need it to heat domestic water, just the rads.

We will be able to get help from a registered plumber to fit the boiler.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

We live on the Glos./Wilts. border.

Thanks

Wouldn't advise or recommend it.

Most modern boilers have a very short life, and you'll end up paying twice as much for spares as a new boiler will cost, assuming it works in the first place.
