Bath Shower Mixer - Rigid Riser Query
May 30th, 2011, 11:23pm

Hi,

I have a large old cast iron bath it is not flush against the wall - i would like to keep the bath and install a shower and i was considering changing the existing mixer taps that I have (which already has a handset style shower attachment) to mixer taps with a rigid riser and traditional style shower rose.

I have a combi bolier.

My query relates to the mixer taps ..the existing mixer taps with handset shower attachment doesn't work that well ..water is either too hot or too cold - is this because its just a bit duff or is this just because this arrangement does not really work that well.

I suppose what I want to know is if I buy a good quality set of mixer taps with rigid riser kit  am i going to have the same problem of the water either being too hot or too cold  - and not mixing effectively.

Thanks

Patch  - Glasgow Tenement so i don't really want a modern looking electric shower

heeelllooo and welcome patch69 Grin Grin Grin

first question you need to ask is how much head do you have  Embarrassed Embarrassed

cut that out you smutty lot  Grin Grin
head is the distance above the shower the header tank is

try your shower see if it gets colder the higher you lift the head
if this is the case the hot pressure is reducing so the cold is progressivly more
if its too close you will never get a stable heat when moving the shower with that setup

Good answer BA  Grin

A suitable for a combination boiler thermostatic valve should be fine.

Instead of rigid risers perhaps consider building a false wall and using wall mounted taps, bath spout and mixer. We found they need less cleaning than bath or basin mounted.
