Oven/Hob Install question
Aug 12th, 2011, 12:53pm

Hi
Im a bit concerned about the rating my hob kicks out. The hob is induction has a high range of 6400-7200w and the oven is 2.85kw. Added together its over just 10kw. I currently have T & E 6mm cable installed (probably throughout?) as far as I can tell and 32A MCB which doesn’t seem adequate to me. Am I right? I guess diversity can help my cause.
Any thoughts? Should I be concerned about connecting up and should consider 10mm cable to the consumer and larger MCB?
Thanks
Rich

Might be ok but how long is the cable run and how is it installed? I think 6mm is ok to 46A under perfect conditions. Perhaps half that if not. The 32A breaker may have been choosen to suit the derating required.

Is it a combined oven and hob or is the oven seperate? As the oven is <3kw it might be possible to plug it into a regular 13A socket. Many oven are now supplied with a plug rather than hard wired. That would drop the load on the 6mm to below 32A (7200/230) and then there is the diversity to help out.
