sqeaky TG florrboards
Dec 22nd, 2014, 4:34pm

On of our bedrooms has been laid with chipboard t&g boards, but has become very squeaky. I have tryd more screws over all the area but this has not stopped the problem.
I have been told best way is to lift all boards and glue and screw down, but as the are laid under skirting, would involve removing skirting to lift.
Does anyone know of a less drastic method of stopping this annoying squeaking?

Happy Christmas to all.
Trevor

It may be that the screws you have used are not pulling the boards down tight, there are specific screws available for this, look for floor board screws, or a screw with a good length of unthreaded shank would work. If you have used screws threaded all along the shank they can actually be counter productive and jack the floorboards up even more. Watch out for pipes and cables though as you screw!

Happy Christmas to you, I hope it is squeak free too.

Great what a good idea never thought of that, I did use full threaded screws, so will get as you suggest and give it another go.
Thanks for help.
