Underfloor heating banging
Nov 28th, 2016, 8:09pm

I am a complete technophobe!  My underfloor heating makes several loud bangs when it first comes on followed by a whistling noise.  Then it settles down.  I have it set at 20c until 9 30 pm and then 18c until 5am. Would it be best to run at 20c all the time.

Thanks

JayTee

Underfloor heating should be running 24/7 not programmed, assuming it's installed correctly.

Saying that the banging is probably from the pump or diverter valve around the manifold. Also a chance there's air in the pipework.

How old is the installation.

We run our UFH with a similar temperature profile. Very common to "set back" a few degrees at night.

If the banging is coming from the floor what construction is it? Wood floor with metal heat spreader plates? These can make some noise as they expand and contract.

Running it at 20C all time might help but will cost more to run.
