Veritas 8 PIR keeps setting the alarm off
Jun 16th, 2018, 8:34am

I have a Veritas 8 alarm
Over the last week, twice, One of the zone PIRs is setting the alarm off
I check and cannot see the reason, no cobwebs, etc....
The PIR has been working fine for 3 years
I know I can partnset the alarm if this persists
What I would like to get guidance on is other possible causes.
Do these PIRs have batteries, I know they are wired
If I have to replace the PIR - how to do that
I have the engineer code
Thanks in advance Mo

You can short out the NC terminals inside the PIR which will prevent the PIR signalling an alarm. This will prove if it is the PIR that is faulty, or the wiring/panel.  Start with doing that, and then we can advise further.

When you remove the PIR cover, the tamper alarm will go off, which can be reset with the user code, unless set for engineer reset only, but as you have the engineer code, you're fine.

There will be no battery.

NC are the pair of contacts which open when movement is detected.  There are 6 terminals inside, 2 for power, 2 for the tamper switch on the cover, 2 for the NC (normally closed) alarm output.

Short the NC together with a short bit of wire or bent staple, and reprogram the one to respond as normal, or even put it as a 24hr zone.  if it never goes off, you know the wiring is sound.
