Wiped joints
Apr 3rd, 2005, 7:52pm

It is some years since I last wiped a joint, but have one to do, connecting copper pipe to an original lead feed.

Is it o.k. to use modern lead free flux and solder - if not, where do I get the old fashioned, toxic illegal stuff these days??!!

Thanks

You mean lead solder, from any plumbers merchants.

Could be illegal to wipe a joint on lead pipe now, other than a repair, you would need to ask the water supplier.

You can get mechanical fittings for this .Be aware of the lead pipe size though!

Why not use a Lead Lock.

I have found some solder in my shed - but is it compatible with modern fluxes?

If not, what should I ask for?

Thanks to those who  have responded so far.
