This is a bit outside the scope of diy.

I could give advice here but if it all comes down on top of you.......................................

How much experience do either of you have of major structural alterations?

Are you saying that the bricky hasn't a clue either?  So that's three of you without a clue, ready to embark on major structural alterations!

What insurance do you have?

This is scarey stuff  Shocked

My advice is to get a local builder to do it for you.  If he is any good he will have done dozens of these and will also have minimum £1 million Public Liability insurance in case anything goes wrong.

This can be disasterous work if NONE of you know what you're doing.

I reckon I've done about 50 - 60 of these 'knock-throughs' and no two have been the same.  You need to understand what you're doing and what needs supporting.  This cannot be done on a forum.

It's like trying to learn to fly a helicopter by a correspondence course.  Not safe!
