Hi John Kitchen companies, even those charging 40,000+, only prime what can be seen. However it is better practice to prime all 6 sides of a piece of timber from a stability point of view. I spend my life telling kitchen manufacturers that sink units, dishwasher housings, tumble drier housings, units round cookers etc. should be primed on all sides because of the moisture. So in answer to the question, yes you can get away with one coat IMHO, I would just prime them with a coat of oil or shellac based primer. Cait
