Bi-fold doors.
Mar 7th, 2006, 7:33pm

One of my customers has been trying to buy a couple of  wooden bi-fold doors and saw the exact doors he wanted.
He made enquiries to buy the doors, but then realised the doors are too big in height for his frames.
It says in the brouchure  that they cant be trimmed, and now he is in a quandry as he wants those type of doors .

What he would like to know is why cant they be trimmed,if someone can tell me, then I can tell him, and how easy would it be to get a joiner to make them?, and could you tell me roughly how much my customer would be expected to pay.?

He hasnt got anyone yet, as thought I would get as much info for him first.
Many Thanks  Smiley

iwould hazzard a guess its because there is minimum "meat "to make it practicle

your either going to open the bottom of mortice
or weaken the joint to much if its molding area glued

but we cant realy hazzard a propper guess without  knowing construction method ,desription of doors ,amount required to be removed ect Grin Wink

You may also find out that if they are the "tracked " flavour, then it is because the top and bottom "swivels" are set in an adhesive or a set cut out! which is machined in, and so to remove the timber either top/and or bottom would result in there being no swivels to place in the tracks!

You didn't say how much bigger they are? Perhaps it's possible to modify the frames? Have a local joiner come and take a look. Tell him what you told us and see what he says.
