Crazed dog
May 6th, 2006, 7:17am

I'm just wondering if there are any animal psychologists out there Undecided

I have a border collie, she is about the most wolf-like dog I have ever seen Wink Grin

Anyway the problem is; I get my Paslode out and she dashes into the pond and runs up and down in the mud, very smelly and she won't take a bath after Roll Eyes not nice Sad

If I stop her going in the pond, she attacks the Paslode with a vengeance. While I'm using it, so not exactly the safest use of a nail gun.

Anyone got any ideas, why the pond?

Molly was such a handful when she was young, that we took her to a dog trainer, they kept her for a week, but she came out worse than she went in Undecided

They said she was the cleverest dog they had seen, she knew what you wanted her to do, she just didn't want to be obedient Undecided

buy Molly her own Paslode ya "cheapskate"..... Grin Grin Grin...

(only kidding)..........

it could be the colour (brightness of the Orange) as dogs see colours different to humans,

collies are always quite highly strung if not worked....(see own Paslode ..again).. they need to be kept stimulated..... thats one of the reasons i stopped having Collies as pets... not the time needed to keep them occupied.....

as for the pond, if a dog feels threatened in anyway shape or form, they need to "hide!!" and the best way to hide  for a dog is to cover your scent.. hence the smelly mud!!  or cow dung is another dog favorite!!! (also helps them, if a country dog go "un-noticed" in another dogs territory!!)

not a great lover of live in dog training, as it really needs to be interaction with the owner and the dog concerned to be able to train the pair as Alpha, and subversant animal!
dog (pet- not working) training is all about getting the dog to be subversant to the MAIN owner/handler, and quite a bit of the time it is down to how the owner and the dog interact together... who's boss and who is not....
Many years ago, when living right on the coast, and having the time to have more than one dog, i used to help out at the 2 local dog training Societies, and so often it was 60-80% of the time how the owners responded to /commanded the dogs!!!!!

but like i stated earlier,Collies are such clever ACTIVE dogs, the need constant stimuli to stop them basically getting bored!!!!

p.s, still buy Mollie her own nail gun!!!! Grin( hang on that could be it,...she reckons you should have bought a Senco/Ace & K AIR nailer, and shes trying to get you to dump the old  hissy Passy!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin Grin)

A mate of mine had a border collie (Blue Merle?) many years ago and I remember that was a handful.  It was always active and 'on the go'.  It always had that wild-eyed look, not a brilliant pet as I remember.

It used to jump his garden gate and be gone all day some days, luckily he lived near the Rye in High Wycombe (huge public park with river) so presumably he was happy as larry out there.

That is the main trouble witha working dog!! it is breed into them, .. the just have to be active!! when i had a pair of Border Collies (Raq & Kiz) they used to end up having a good 4 miles worth of walks each day!!!(oh those were the days, plenty of time!!) and that was with out the use of the looooooonnng garden we had at the time for them to play in!!

Wolf it must be the noise, she has started to run in the pond when I get the hammer out Undecided

She was telling me yesterday she is not so much a border collie as a bored collie Roll Eyes

She has dozens of toys, but I hadn't thought of getting her her own Paslode  Undecided once she becomes familiar with its operation she will probably lose the fear, good idea Roll Eyes Grin

I know where I can lay my hands on some Dogwood Wink and no jokes about leaving the bark on Wink

Best dog I had for walking was my Bulldog, the furthest he would venture was the end of my drive, when he was young he would go a bit further then just give up, it's no fun carrying a 60lbs bulldog up the road.

This looked a good idea so I thought, I know I'll put my ear defenders on Molly, take a picture and post it here so you can all have a laugh.

Anyway,  she didn't want to wear them.
