Cost of adding an RSJ to wall opening?
Jul 30th, 2006, 4:19pm

Over on another forum someone is buying a house that has a a problem. Builder appears to have made a 3M hole in a load bearing wall without installing an rsj to support the brick wall above.

Anyone got a ball park figure for the cost of:

a) Getting someone to lift floor boards and an SE to come and inspect, calculate size of rsj if one needed.

b) Cost of cutting ceiling and adding an RSJ (Sounds like there is probably enough wall either side of the opening to rest it on - so no new brick pillars needed). Make good and replaster.

a) Anything from £350 upwards depending on what needs calculating.

b) Anything from £1k upwards depending on beam(s) needed, access for steel etc etc.

What's holding the place up now?  Shocked Shocked

Thanks. Will pass on the info.

Not sure what's holding it up. OP says they are in the process of buying the property. Apparently the owner said the builder told them no rsj required.
