Services Disconnection Advice Please
Jul 27th, 2006, 3:30pm

Hello all,

I am going to demolish a house which means I need to isolate the gas and electric before the demolition starts. The gas network provider wants to charge me £376 to turn it off at the main, but a demolition guy says he knows someone who will do it for a beer!
Are there any laws which require that it is done by the owner of the network?

I also need to get British Gas to remove the meter. Do I have a choice here?

Same questions apply to electricity.

Does anyone have any experience?

Techpigmy.

I agree with big_all..

British gas have to remove the meter first.

Then you will need to contact Transco to arrange disconnection..they are responsible for the pipework up to the meter...but they won't do anything unless the meter has already gone.

Be prepared for a long wait (as in 3 months plus).

I know ...I have been there.
