i have also recalled seeing this sort of timber/ally section atttached direct to the frame prior to installation, then the whole affair just slid in to place, frame afixed then a builder premium mastic applied all round!!

Like JFC and yourself I must admit to never fitting a GRP door but it sounds pretty good to me. I prefer to fit the threshold strip last then there is no chance of the sealant being disturbed
I have used the roll over threshold strips though
the main problem I've found with them is that the door has to fit perfectly, 1/8" out ( see I've gone specially Imperial for you

) and they don't work. Plus I think you still need a weather bar.
