Plumbing and building regs

Is it right that plumbing and leadwork are going to come under Building regs like electrical work has (part P )?

Anyone got any details?

Regards

Some plumbing is already covered bt the building regs. eg In parts G & H. but perhaps this is what you mean..

http://www.buildingtalk.com/news/asa/asa104.html

Quote:
The Association of Plumbing and Contractors (Certification) is currently progressing a self-certification scheme with the ODPM to cover most daily plumbing activities.

The areas applied to cover include: Part J - heat producing appliances (oil and solid fuel) Part L - energy efficiency in buildings Part P - electrical (limited to and forming part of the gas installation) Part G - plumbing (including water regulations - non building regulations) Part H - waste water Water Regulations will also be included.

If you require further information on Competent Persons Schemes please contact APHCL on 024 7647 2503, or you can visit the ODPM website www.odpm.gov.uk

Presumably if you do work on your drains now you have to make a BCA. With the above scheme in place you would just need to use an approved scheme member.

The above gives the current state of play - thankfully.

I had to involve building control over my drains last year - put it all in,  arranged a site visit, and set up a full drains test to show willing - I even had a had a spirit level set up on a length with a piece of wood under one end to show the fall.

The inspector stayed about three minutes, and with a comment that I obviously knew what I was doing, went away again.

After he had gone I noticed that the fall on the last section to be connected - with the spirit level on it - went away from the inspection chamber not towards it...........H'm. So much for knowing what I was doing.  Had to spend the rest of the afternoon getting it right!

No the question was whether any tightening up was being suggested - any new restrictions on 'hammer chewers' like me doing basic plumbing and lead flashing.  If not then that's good news, and I'll get my extension up before they change their minds!

Building Contol is no longer the responsibility of the Deputy PM.

An extra point for anyone who knows who's responsibility it is (without looking it up).
