Lack of hot water
Oct 13th, 2006, 7:42pm

Hi,

I have a standard gloworm gas boiler that heats water for both heating and water. The hot water is then stored in a tank.
The heating works absolutely fine, but i can't get more than about 5 mins worth of hot water. If I keep the central heating on, I get hot water fine, but not without. I have replaced thermostats, 3 way valves and the electrical contrl panel, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Air or scaling in the primary pipes, would be the first port of call.

How old is the pipework and cylinder, and what boiler is it.

Thanks for the reply.

The pipes and the boiler are pretty old, but I have them full of fernox, so they shouldn't be too cruddy. I bled the whole system down yesterday and think I may have had a small airlock from when I replaced the 3 way valve. Hot water seems OK today...watch this space.

Are you putting the valve to the manual position when you vent the system.
