Wobbly balusters and handrail
Feb 1st, 2007, 11:21pm

Hi, I'm working in a very old 3 storey house and the balusters and handrail on the landing between the 2nd and 3rd floors are very loose and wobbly. There's no newel on the landing just the turned handrail. What's the best way to secure everything?

Cheers

Hi Jeff and a warm welcome to this here forum....

with out actually looking at/seeing the items in question.. it is hard to ascertain exactly what type of either fixings or joints have been used to assemble them in the first place!

for an example, i have just finished installing a "flat Z" shaped stair case only yesterday, which was ALL jointed and glued... only the top and base where they meet the respective floors where there any fixings!!!

could you possibly post a picture or two on here....

using some hosting site such as
http://photobucket.com/   who have FREE accounts!!!!

and if you are unsure of how to post a piccy etc follow this link!
to our "advise" area!   http://www.askthetrades.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1137319414

if and when i can see either a piccy or a drawing/sketch then io may be able to shed some light on the best method of fixing it !!!

regards WOLF!
