Overflow pipe from unvented 15lt HW system
Feb 6th, 2007, 11:31pm

I am installing a small 15lt unvented hot water system with a 3bar pressure reducer, the correct length of pipe between the last take off point and the unit, and a supplied safety valve.  The safety valve is designed to have an overflow pipe connected to it whcih should discharge safely outside.

As the unit is some 5 m from the outside wall I was wondering if I could take the overflow into a much nearer ordinary waste pipe and include a tundish.  Unfortunately I am not sure what one of these actually does or even if it would be suitable.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Just terminate it at low level, ok, so it makes a mess if it blows.

Thanks Scruff, if it does blow does it produce a continuous stream of water or just a limitted ammount?

Normally it will drip first for a few weeks, depends on what went wrong.

Can't you get a floor gully fitted and run the pipe underground, the problem with plastic is it will not take the heat if it really goes toes up
