If in doubt, dig it out.

Granny's Pants
Jun 24th, 2007, 1:42am

Chaps,

My newly-oiled Oak kitchen worktops smell like "Granny's pants" according to everyone in our house. I'm supposed to lightly re-oil every month or so but I don't want to continue 'cos of the whiff. So, is there an odourless product out there I could use next time? The one I've just used was Rustin's Danish Oil.

Thanks

Gammy

Granny's pants,  Undecided is everyone in the house an habitual sniffer Shocked Grin

If you thin the DO with about 10% pure turpentine the pine smell of the turps will overpower the oily smell. It needs to be real turpentine though not the turps substitute the sheds sell.

Thanks for the reply. My wife was a bloodhound in a previous life  Grin and has passed this on to the kids. Thankfully I have virtually no sense of smell but can still smell it 1 week after last coat. I daresay that it will eventually disappear so I will try the turps route upon next application.

Thanks
