Plastic for trailer
Oct 6th, 2007, 5:12pm

I'm thinking of making a garden trailer like one of these because the big ones are very expensive (£300 to £500)...

...

I can get wheels, axles and assorted metalwork for it quite cheaply but I'd like to find an alternative to marine ply for the box itself.

Is there a plastic equivalent to MDF or anything like that available?

Thanks. Tried ebay earlier and will have a look at Phenol plywood.

Google found this stuff which looks interesting if it's not too expensive and actually available..

http://uber-eng.com.sg/products_tuffply_intro.htm

TuffPly is an engineered plastic composite board / plastic plywood, made specifically for form concrete shuttering faces.

Its very tough & scratch resistant surface suits the rough handling on site and can be nailed, screwed & sawn easily like how you would use a wood product.

My 6x4 trailer uses checkerplate material, I got it secondhand for £70, it has indespension units and mini wheels. I was going to build one but for £70 I would have just bought the suspension units. I'll have a go at posting a piccy of it.
