Filling PVC window frames
Dec 17th, 2007, 7:38pm

I'm redecorating my council flat after Xmas and I'm going to rip down some dado (thin) rail that was up before I moved in. The problem is that the PVC window frames have been cut to fit around the dado. After I rip it down I was going to fill it (the cut out) painstakingly neatly and paint it with white gloss, but I can't help but think it will look a mess. Does anyone know of any tips such as using PVC offcuts etc that might do the trick. As I mentioned it's a council flat so I cant go overboard on either cost or work. Thanks for any help, Lee.

Can't quite see why they cut the window not the rail but...

Could you fix a quarter round or similar PVC bead around the whole window?

A 20mm upvc cloaking fillet should do the job.

Perhaps Klingon Windows can sell you a cloaking device?

Sorry it's that time of year.

I doubt they have cut the frame - more likely the fillet strips they used to cover damage to decor etc.

These can easily be removed, and a new peice fitted, or removed and the walls made good and decorated.

Any chance of a pic?  See the sticky topic at the top of all boards for info on posting pics.

Yeah, thats it Lectrician, the fillet, so if I pull them off will I be able to take it to B&Q and get some new strips? incidentally, what sort of adhesive do you use to attach it or is it just held in with silicone.

I doubt B&Q will have cloaking filletts.  You'll need a upvc stockist, most towns have them.  They usually also sell upvs fascias and cladding etc.

Stick them on with white silicone (assuming windows are white.....)

Use high modulous silcon - It is more tacky and will stick better.  Then use some normal bright white silcon to bead the join.  Ask the uPVC stockist what they recommend - They usually carry mastics/sealents/glues aswell.

The op said he wanted a gloss paint finish, you cannot paint over silicon sealant.

He won't need to paint the silicone, he will repair the window with a upcv trim.

Thanks for all your replies, I've got some sorted for after Christmas from a friend of a friend (who fits em) so to speak. Will only cost me a couple of pints so once again cheers, Lee.
