Damaged Plasterboard External Pipes

All help and advice gratefully rec'd. I have removed units and tiles from a bedroom/living room and have a wall with residual adhesive and a damaged surface plus some external pipes (part of central heating). I plan to build a stud frame (using 2 1/2" wood) then nail plasteboard to it thus losing a small part of the room but with a smooth surface to decorate and ugly pipes hidden. I know there are lots of 'it depends' however does this sound like a reasonable plan - any obvious gotchas? Thank you for your time.

I'd be tempted to do what you propose but I would fit a vapour barrier before plasterboarding. A vapour barrier is just a plastic sheet with joints and edges taped and sealed. This would reduce the risk of condensation forming in the cooler still air behind the new stud wall.
