old book
Feb 25th, 2009, 5:19pm

hopefully someone can help me on this one . about 45 years ago when i was a young lad i gave my uncle a book , mainly because he did a lot of DIY , but his profession was painter and decorator . the book was about A5 in size 2 to 3 inches in depth and the colour of the cover was pink and it was mainly a book for carpenters . being the age i was i thought it would be more useful to him rather than me . the description i believe is right but you know how the memory is Smileywaiting in anticipation  Wink thank you

it was possibly

"Carpenters for beginners, "

from the wood workers series of books, by "Evans Bros, of London"!

they were all approx A5 size, or the Imperial equivalent back then..

From your description it could have been 'Modern Practical Joinery' by George Ellis. First published in 1902 it's still in print and available from Amazon. It's a classic and I still use his designs and a lot of his methods. It's A5, 'orangey' cover, and about 2" thick. Should be on every wood workers shelf!
