Bricks sucking water from mortar
Mar 29th, 2009, 12:40pm

I'm laying some Audley Antique bricks and they are sucking the water out of the mortar like crazy even though I'm wetting them.

Next lot I do I plan to wet them more but is it possible to overdo it? Is acceptable to soak the bricks in a bucket for an hour or two for example Smiley

Yes, sometimes that is needed, Trial and error is needed to test how long to soak the bricks for.  Usually a soaking with a hose about ten minutes prior to laying is enough.

Thanks. I've only got a few dozen to do so gave them 10 mins in a bucket and they seem much easier to lay.
