Which boiler?
Dec 9th, 2010, 4:42pm

I have an old (25 yrs) oil fired floor standing boiler currently running 11 radiators on two floors I am thinking of updating this with another oil fired  boiler(no gas in village) which can run about 15 radiators, and hopefully cost less to run.

I don't think I need to have a condensing boiler as the hot water is in a tank which is also an immersion heater.

What make and model would you suggest?

You are probably confusing "Combination/Combi" boilers with "Condensing" boilers. All new boilers have to be condensing boilers. Thats because they are more efficient than non-condensing.

Combi boilers are a type of boiler that produce hot water for bathing "on demand" rather than storing it in a hot water cylinder.

How many people live there and how many bathrooms/showers do you have?

What's the water pressure like from the hot taps?

I have a Grant Vortex. Been in three years. Very happy with it. Service enginer seems to like it as well.

If you also wanted do something about the hot water pressure I'd suggest a switching to a mains pressure stored hot water system rather than using a Combi boiler.  That would mean changing the existing cylinder for something like a Megaflo. Before you did that you would need to check that the cold water mains pressure and flow rate to the house was ok.
