Extending Coax
Mar 20th, 2011, 5:42pm

SWMBO has decided that I should move the furnature in our bedroom around. The coax from the areal (freeview) does not now reach the tv. What do I need to extend it (apart from Coax) is there a simple jointing method?

A picture would be nice.  Grin

Two F-Type plugs..

...

and an F-Type coupler...

...

Maplin will sell both.

Note that there is no seperate "pin" on the plug - the solid core of the coax forms the pin. Cut it to correct length after fitting.

Ideally the F-Type Plug would be a crimp on type but you may not want to fork out for the crimping tool so the top picture shows a screw on type.

Fitting instructions here..

http://www.tradeworks.tv/acatalog/F_connector_fitting.pdf

but instead of using electrical tape in the last step use heat shrink sleeve. Makes for a better job. Just remember to slide a bit down the cable before fitting the connector.

It can be a bit tough on the fingers getting the connectors on sometimes.

Coax cable actually comes in slightly different sizes. Mostly it's all similar enough that any F-Type connectors will fit but ocasionally it's a struggle. If there are any markings on the coax report back as we might be able to find the best ones to match.
