New BBC Radio Player & Firefox won't work.
Apr 4th, 2011, 9:38am

Anyone experienced recent problems with BBC's new Radioplayer and Firefox?

I can't get it to run in Firefox at all, and have had to resort to a nasty old version of internet exploder.

No probs for me on Firefox, TT.

Went straight in...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00zsdsl/World_at_One_29_03_2011/#recommend...

... pulled off the Firefox page.

(And didn't realise that Martha Carney was so pretty!)

Wrong site, Joiner.

he means http://www.radioplayer.co.uk/

which incidentally seems to work Ok for me on FF4/Mac.

Having said that I think that radioplayer has to be the biggest waste of money, time and energy. God knows how much licence fee money was spent by the BBC on creating this..well, what exactly.  Who the f*ck cares that you can simply go just to one page for all the radio stations in the UK.

So bloody what. What was wrong with bookmarks?

The TV companies care a lot. The Electronic Program Guide is seen as the "operating system of TV". The company that controls the EPG rules the world. The BBC were much slower than Sky to recognise this.

Rog, I got to that link VIA the radioplayer. Just tried it via the link you gave and it worked fine, as originally, so don't know what problem TT was experiencing.

Just to follow up on what I said above...

The BBC have been working on a project that some people have called the project Freeview 2.0 but that's never been an official name. Originally called Project Canvass it's now called YouView. Alan Sugar is non-executive chairman of the project.

It aims to deliver a new set top box that can display broadcast TV channels as well as web based content. Instead of each company having it's own iplayer, the box will have one that delivers web content from all the terrestrial channels not just the BBC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouView

Although intended to output to a TV there will have to be a web based version for PC. I can't see companies wanting to keep their  seperate iPlayers.

You can see how powerful this approach will be by the number of complaints from TV companies that decided not to get involved.

Another motivation for this project (in my opinion) is that it may provide a way for the BBC to migrate away from a license fee to a subscription model but that will depend on how popular it is.

My only complaint is that they need to get a move on with it.

Probably in another 10 years at the rate they are going. I first heard about project Canvas around 10 years ago.

Weird effect! I'm also running Firefox and clicking on that link takes me straight to the programme, but when I closed the window it took Firefox off as well. Clicked on the Firefox desktop icon and it told me that Firefox was already running and needed closing before it could open again. Checked the Task Manager and it didn't show Firefox running so closed that and clicked the desktop icon again and it fired up OK, so have no idea what's happening.

Huh
