first off, all this work is going to be done by my local gas installer. i just want an idea of what is involved so i can try and make sure he can get to whatever he needs to easily so i'm not wasting time when he comes.
currently, the only gas appliance in the house is the boiler (20 year old ideal classic) which is on a 15mm supply straight back to the meter. there is a tee off of this pipe which used to supply a room heater, long since disconnected. the tee is only a foot or so long.
the boiler is roughly half way between the new hob location and the meter, and according to the distructions that came with it, the supply should be run in 15mm copper (big 5 burner thing) so i figure the logical pipe route is going to be meter to boiler to hob. the question is, will a 15mm pipe be large enough to supply the boiler and the hob, or will i need to get the pipe that feeds the boiler replaced with larger?
also, for some degree of future-proofing i will likely be replacing the boiler in the next 18 months or so (need to save up the money) and will probably be going for a worcester 18Ri or 24Ri (need to work out exactly what heat output we need) so to me it makes sense to change this now if it needs it.
if the current 15mm pipe is going to be enough then woohoo! otherwise i'm going to need to clear a lot of sh*t from the driveway so he can get at the side of the house to change the pipe.
