Boulter Camray Quartet 40/60
Oct 6th, 2011, 5:58pm

Hi, I have the above boiler which started squealing very loudly when running, then locking out - finally got so loud that we've turned it off.

There is plenty of oil getting through to the pump.  I have removed the pump (dogbit was fine) & solenoid, reset, but the squeal is still there.  The fan isn't rubbing so I guess its the motor??

However - since I had the burner apart the burner is now constantly on lockout - won't reset (light goes out when I depress the lockout button but comes back on immediately when I let go (not an overheat lockout)).

Have I knackered the control box too??  I don't recall doing anything which would have broken it, but I know these things happen.

Q1. This is an old boiler and there are no markings on the burner other that riello 40 (the boiler is a 40/60) - what motor do I need (if you agree I need a motor)!

Q2. Is it the control box which is causing constant lockouts? If so, again, which one do I need?

Many thanks, Nick

Probably the oil pump, but you need an oil engineer to test and set it up properly.

When did it have a good service.

Constant lockout now could be related to you dismantling the burner unit and perhaps not getting it all back together correctly so you are not getting oil through.  The lockout button needs to sit in lockout for approx 2 minutes before you reset it, if you try to soon, it goes back to lockout.

As has been suggested by Scruff, recommend you get an engineer in.

The squealing is being caused by your motor bearings, they are fairly easily changed if you are mechanically mined, just use 2 screwdrivers to lever the bearings off the shaft when you have dismantled the motor.
You need 2 bearings (6202rs1 bearings), pref high temp bearings, carefull not to loose spacers out of motor when dismantling.
As for you control box you have probably bust it resetting it to much so you will prob need one of them to.
One other thing, usually when you replace bearings on an older boiler you will find that the motor will not start, this is due to the weak capacitor so be aware you might need one of those to but you might be lucky and not need it.
