blowing 30amp fuse
Mar 18th, 2005, 1:41pm

I am having problems with my plugs ring main blowing the fuse. I unpluged everything and have managed to get some power back on and small electrical things work fine, but if i plug anything that uses power like a kettle, microwave it blows the fuse with a loud bang. I live in a new block and the wireing is only ten years old any ideas i bought a 13am socket tester but thats not shown anything either.  ???

That’s strange, sound's like a latent defect somewhere or faulty equipment, what's more if it's 10 years old I would have expected circuit breakers and not fuse wire, unless that's what it is, but fuse refers specifically to fuse wire..

If you are not famiiar with a multi meter or similar, then I think you need a proffesional.

The obvious thing to do is look behind each socket.

Is there an outside socket anywhere on the circuit??  Look there.

Immersion heater connected to this circuit, or any other heating devices??

I see, well it's almost certainly a defect somewhere, which could likely be found by testing, but as lecc said, unless you can use a multimeter proficiently with the circuit isolated, it's time to call in a spark
