minor electrical installation works certificate
Mar 21st, 2005, 6:11pm

can anybody please help me complete this?.

What wording goes where the dots are on the minor electrical installation works certificate?

Part 4 declaration

"BS 7671:................(IEE Wiring regulations)"
and
"amended to ............................... and that"

I would be really grateful for your help.

Also when doing a earth loop inpedance test should the equiptional bonding be connected? I have two books which contradict each other. One says it shouldn't be disconnected for the test and the other says it should be connected. Which one is right?

Once agaian i would be grateful for your help as this is driving me up the wall trying to find out.

Both say the same thing. "shouldn't be disconnected" is the same as "should be connected" - double negative is a positive.

Opposite to what Beanzy says.   Wink

Ze = external loop impedence. If you leave the earth connected to all those paralell paths which may or may not be in place all the time (ie if the plumbing gets re-worked) then how well have you measured external loop impedence?

Beanzy's quite right.

As for the dates BS 7671 : 2001 refers to the latest edition of the regs, which have now been amended twice, the latest being in March 2004.

Yea, we always put mar04 as the ammended to date.

Ze, disconnect the bonding.
Zs, leave it in place.

You just said earth loop, so unsure if you are meaning Zs or Ze?

With ref to dates, 2004 is sufficient, I don't bother putting march..

Whilst this is quite correct, if you cannot isolate the installation when doing you're Ze, you should not disconnect the main earth, the test should be conducted on the main earth whilst it's connected to the main earthing terminal

And a limitation noted.  A cert with this as a limitation wouldn't hold much water, in my opinion. Undecided

better than nothing lecc.. if you disconnect main earth leaving the installation with no means of suitable earthing and something fault's you're going to have more worries than a limitation on test..

If it can't be done, then you're most likely in a commercial installation or such like, so you'll get the original comissioning manuals for the installation copy it out, then measure with it all in situ. If all looks correct then you'll provide that info as "by enquiry" and note the source and you readings on the cert. For your calcs you'll use the original unless it looks higher than the measured..... in which you'll code 3 it on a PIR so they get you to check out why their earthing has deteriorated.

If you're in a domestic situation and they lust want to keep the radio on, then you'll tell them not to be such ponces and throw the isolator Wink  Grin

Top marks to beanzy.

I would still strive to get an accurate reading.

With out my GN3 to hand (I am home with a cold.......again Angry)  I will have to guess a little....

From memory the accuracy has to be within 5%.

The meter must be able to sustain at least a 20amp test current.

How did I do Grin
