Mixer Valve inlet centres
Mar 24th, 2005, 5:28pm

I am not a plumber but work for a shower manufacturer and could do with some feedback regarding mixer valve inlet centres.

When you replace a mixer valve how important are the centres of the old shower when buying the replacement?

How often when replacing the shower to you have to replace the existing pipework to give the correct centres and depth to match the new shower?

As 150mm seems to be the industry standard, if valve were produced with 100mm centres but at half the cost would you fit these?

Thanks in advance for any responses given.

cheaper isnt always better.

I would fit whatever the customer wanted, if I was to advise on the replacement, i'd tend to give some thought to the installation. Weighing up things like access to pipework, time req'd to fit, all billable expenses on top of the valve itself. The valves with different centres are bound to suffer, however i suppose it would depend on just how good(quality) they were and how much cheaper. I would always tend to go for a replacement with the same centres.

I will be replacing our shower mixer shortly. Will be looking for one with same centers - don't want to have to retile the whole bathroom!
