???Subbase for patio slabs???
Apr 22nd, 2005, 12:47am

I've started a patio ,hardcore base then scalpings ready for sharp sand and block pavers.
My dear wife has changed her mind and wants patio slabs. The hardcore base and scalpings have both been wacker plated so is quite solid, can i just lay the slabs on a morter base on top of the scalpings.
Only ask a frend had a patio built and the base was a concrete slab base

I always lay a concrete slab first, often with light mesh reinforcement embedded.

If a client asked me to lay slabs on anything else I'd walk away.

EVERY patio I've seen over 5 years old laid on hardcore etc, has moved, sunk, shifted, cracked etc etc.

The house has a concrete foundation so why not the patio, you'll want it to last as long.

Lay off that one Matt.
We had enough here with Fred West.
My eldest lived across the road and had to get a police pass to get home and leave for work while all that lot was going on.

Mine is laid on a concrete slab.  A little costly, but never going to move!

And as a multi tallented sparky, I dont get 1 puddle on the slabs - it all drains to the front Wink
