Ok Are these DVD+R/W or -R/W or does your drive support both formats?

I don't believe Windows has native support for writing DVD. I think it only has native support for writing CD so it's looking for a blank CD.

Humm yes sorry I was too hasty. I've seen several people report similar pronlems in the newsgroups but no common cause. Sometimes trying alternative media works but not always.

Google the make and model + "insert a blank disc" and see what turns up.

Try this..

Go to My Computer and right click on the drive. Select "Properties" and then the "Recording" tab.

Is the "Enable CD recording on this drive" box ticked?

I think that only refers to Windows native recording though.

usually its the polarity, although some things wont record onto rw discs, usually backup type things(like sony vaio recovery discs) since you only do it once so they wont let you risk wiping it in future!

i must admit its been a long time since i burnt anything onto cd, i never find the need to do that anymore with networking, flash drives and HD mp3 players. i could probably lose my cd burner quite happily.  I also hardly ever used nero, most of the stuff i burned using windows itself, wasn't noticably slower in any case.
