Fixing stud wall to concrete floor
Aug 5th, 2005, 1:58pm

Hi. I have to build a stud wall in a kitchen. The floor is concrete and the walls are breeze-block. Eventually the new wall willl carry a couple of smallish kitchen cupboards and a cooker hood.
I have been told I could fix the sole-plate (3" x 2") to the floor either will expansion bolts or with 4" nails using a cartridge hammer. (I guess I could also fix the end studs to the breeze-block?)
Which method should I go for do you think?

A few 4" No 12 (6.0x100) screws and brown plugs will do or you could use hammer/frame fixings. Place the fixings at 300mm cts and you should not go wrong. Also make sure the upright studs are a tight fit between the sole and head plates.

Also while you are building your stud waal work out where your cupboards are going to hang and put some noggins in to support them and the cooker hood.

Means you can use a decent fixing Grin

Have not used frame fixings in an age since I found express anchors...same principle but way way better.

I assume you have checked there are no services (pipes or cables) within this screed anywhere near where you're going to be fixing?
