Up and running
Oct 26th, 2005, 4:41am

Hi guys, good to see the site back up. Your server time is about 8 hours forward - got quite worried when it wished me 'good morning' - thought I'd lost out somewhere down the line! Good to see you back.

Thank God for than, I was turning into a manic depressive with suicidal tendencies drinking three bottles of malt a night.

A round of applause of all Geeks concerned - time for  a collection to get SS -

- UPS

- Supply suppressor

- Mirrored Server

and a few dozen cans of his favourite

and a LONG time overdue may I add......

ok, heres the nightmare.....

local REC are having a bit of a nightmare with the cables round here, on teh 11kv side i think because they re route it along the ring and get the power back, then make a breif apperence but methinks they have no idea where the problem is....

anyway, have gone years, no power cuts

then 2 in one night, then again a few days later...ect ect then one last night.

UPS is good to hold both computer and monitor +server+ router up for about 10 minutes.

what seems to have happened is this,

first there was a power cut(about 20 mins so UPS went down and doesnt have the command of server so only shut the pc down), then on returning the supply the PSU in my computer something went wrong in it, blew one of the caps to bits and various other damage.

this seems to have sent a spike down the line to the server, what baffles me is the PSU in the server is fine....

anyway, in my PC
1 mother board + PSU and my old CPU wouldent fit the new M/Board i could get so new one of them, exept the m/board i brought was as the computer tech called it "dead out of teh box" and they couldent deal with it, manufactureres have to cos i fitted it not them, fuuk it i thaught, so brought another and they fitted.
It also destroyed my brand new key board and mouse

Damage : £350.00

in the server, motherboard and CPU were Dead.

cant get a m/board that takes the servers old memory so i ordered
1 m/board
1 RAM stick
which came yesterday morning, had the server fitted up and ready before going to work at 8, came back, turned on...dead.....sh*t....then...oh yeah, i fitted the old CPU to make sure it was dead and not just the old m/board

changed it for the old CPU from my PC and with some help from pluggy, about 50 reboots of the router and were back.

total cost is about £400 odd

have a huge UPS system to install for a backup supply aswell as the small one protecting my PC, when i get round to it!

Thanks for the history SS BUT I say again -

I DON'T SEE WHY SS SHOULD FORK OUT £400 FOR US ALL TO HAVE A BIT OF BANTER AND FUN AND HELP OTHERS Sad.

Let me see £400 / 950 = 0.42 per member.

OK, OK so there are only some 50 active members (say) so that's £400 / 50 = £8 per active member....or about as much coffee as the average plumber drinks before he starts work (aint that right Scruff  Wink)

COME ON CHAPS ARE WE THAT STINGY?

I've been going to bed early and feel a lot better, back to more late nights again now; I can just hear the bedroom door opening, and the screeching harridan shouting,' are you going to be on that bloody thing all night, or are you coming to bed?

???

Gladly stick a tenner in the pot, how?

it is mate, and anyone who wants to make a donation it would be much appreciated, i dont like taking money from people when its offered but if im honest it has been a bit tight.

please bear in mind that the server only cost about 100 quid to get working, my computer was the bastered that cost money!

what a fukker! bit of a run of it recently

cheers for any donations to ATT people!
